Chris and Henry travel for 27 hours

27 hours. That's how long it took from Bridgewater, CT to our hotel in Kyoto.  2 cars, 2 planes and 3 trains.

Henry thoroughly enjoyed his business class pod for the long flight.  He watched 6 movies, had 2 full meals including an ice cream sundae and had a nice long nap.  He slept through the final meal (quiche or beef and rice).

I've been on a lot of American flights all over the world and I have to admit that these pods were the nicest and the food was surprisingly good too.   But, 13 hours on a plane is a long time.  I started to get really bored around hour 9.

I was worried about going through immigration since Henry and I have different last names but no one even questioned us.

No rest for the weary, we landed at the airport and took the bullet train to Kyoto.  The train is really nice. I'd like to say something about the Japanese countryside but we both basically slept through the train ride.  Bullet train was a bucket list item for Henry. Bento box fail for lunch.  We only had a few minutes to get food at the train station so we just grabbed the first thing that looked not too crazy. Turned out to be pork sandwiches. Not great.

We are staying at the Four Seasons in Kyoto.

Taking it easy tonight.  Went for swim. I never met a hotel pool I didn't like.

Ate dinner at the hotel. It was good except for the Shirley Temple fail.  Who puts a lemon in a Shirley Temple?

We are beyond exhausted at this point.  Going to sleep now.  We have a big day tomorrow touring Kyoto.  Looking forward to seeing the bamboo forest.
