Chris goes to Gangtey

Stunning. There is no other word to describe Gangtey, a farming village set in a fertile valley at an elevation of 9,000 ft. For those of you for which those elevation numbers mean nothing... Denver has an elevation of 5200 ft.

Potatoes and buckwheat are the main crops grown here.  There are also cows which just sort of wander around grazing where ever they want.  And, ladies and gentlemen, this is a yak.

To my engineering friends, no yaks were shaved in the creation of this blog.

The drive here from Thimphu was slow going because it is up and down very windy roads through the mountains.

Before checking into the hotel, we stopped for a horse ride.  The guy on the left is my guide.  He wanted to go for the ride and have the horse guy lead him.  I refused. I wanted a real ride and not a follow-the-leader thing.  So we left my guide behind and the horse guy and I took off through the woods on the ponies. We had a fun time comparing how they say "go" and "stop" and other horse subjects. He asked if I had horses. I said I have a driving team. He asked if they were bigger than the ponies. I just laughed and replied "slightly bigger."

I am staying at the Gangtey Lodge. Another day; Another amazing property.

Here's my room

I just had a great in-suite massage and am now enjoying a cup of tea in the common room.

So far the staff here seem as great as the folks at The Postcard.  The folks at The Postcard sent me off with a whole container of those cookies I so thoroughly enjoyed.

Here's me and my new friend at The Postcard. (Don't tell Gizmo)

Tomorrow is a day of monasteries and birds.
